Report from host Ken Carpenter

We were but few this year, however the weather was superb and all had a great time. I probably had more fun than anyone as I amassed enough winnings to win the "Distinguished Golfer Trophy".

A brief summary of the three days of golf follows (the facts and nothing but the facts):

There were 6 Good Guy golfers each day, Dick Apple, Barney Bauermeister, Ken Carpenter, Larry Feldhaus, Ray Jackson, and Bill Shumann.  Shirley Keppel-Carpenter and Carolyn Apple joined us on Monday.

Each day was low net, a modified Stableford team score, fewest putts and closest to the pin on two holes. Tuesday was a string game.

Monday @ Litchfield Country Club (70.1/121):

Barney won $15.; $11 for low net (75) and tie for fewest putts (32).

Ken won $16; $4 for low net (84), $8 for closest to the pin and $4 for team score.

Ray won $13; $9 for low net (79) and $4 for team score.

Dick won $10; $6 for low net (83) and $4 for team score.

Larry won $6; $2 for low net (86) and $4 for tie on fewest putts (32).

Shirley won $4 for team score.

Tuesday @ Willbrook Plantation (68.5/118):

We played a string game that allowed use of string to move the ball in any direction without penalty. You were given a foot of string for each stroke of handicap and you cut off the used string, then you used one-half your handicap. There were a bunch of net eagles and a big bunch of net birdies, and much fewer putts required.

Barney won $13.; $9 for low net (67) and $4 for team score.

Ken won $17.; $7 for low net (74), $6 for fewest putts (18), and $4 for team score.

Dick won $8.; $5 for low net (77) and $3 for closest to the pin.

Larry won $10.; $3 for low net (92) and $3. for closest to the pin and $4 for team score.

Wednesday @ The River Club (68.3/119):

Barney won $9 for low net (68).

Ken won $14,; $7 for low net (71), $3 for closest to the pin and $4 for team score.

Dick won $11; $5 for low net (75) and $6 for fewest putts (30).

Larry won $4. for team score

Ray won $10.; $3 for low net (78), $3 for closest to the pin and $4 for team score.

Totals:
Ken $47.
Barney $37.
Dick $29.
Ray $23.
Larry $20.
Shirley $4.
Bill $0. (Better to say that Bill missed the cut, huh?)
Carolyn $0.

Beetle Bailey

We heard a lot of reminiscing about the great shots we all used to hit.  Maybe our memories aren't any better than General Halftrack's memory.

Accommodations

This is the four bedroom villa seven of us stayed in.  It was new and spacious.  The two bedroom villa that two couples stayed in was old and had problems with the air conditioning.  If we ever go back to Litchfield we need to avoid those two bedroom villas.

Evening Meals

ricepaddy3.jpg

We ate at the 811 Steak and Pasta, 9674 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island Sunday night.  Click to go to the 811 Steak and Pasata web site.

Monday night we ate at The Rice Paddy Restaurant, 732 Front Street, Georgetown.  Click to go to the Rice Paddy web site.

On Tuesday night we ate at Frank's Outback, 10434 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island.  Click to go to Frank's Outback web site.

All three nights the food was good as was the company.  Personally I rank the three restaurants in the order in which we visited them.   Franks is a special experience because to the semi-outdoors seating and casual semi-tropical decor, not to mention the outstanding food.
