Logging Circa 1900

Pop told me about working in the loggin industry in the Missippi delta around the turn of the century. I don't have any pictures that he took at that time, but the following images mirror what he told me about life at that time.

This giant cypress tree is 2700 years old.

I don't know the age of this giant cypress, but it appears to be as old as the tree above.

These oxen are rigged to pull wagons with logs slung under them to pull the logs through mud sloughs in the swamp to the rail head.

This is a typical saw mill from the 1900 era.

Logs being loaded on the flat car at the rail head.

Logs waiting to be loaded on the flat cars.
